Support our Work
Dec 15, 2006
Dear Friends,
Since our inception in 1994, Recycle-A-Bicycle has worked with over 6,000 youth. As you know, we operate bicycle repair workshops in four schools and support interns and apprentices at two retail shops and in our new workshop in Long Island City. We offer free, drop-in bike repair classes to adults twice a week and were the first organization to send a youth delegation to the National Bike Summit in Washington DC.
Students in our summer programs have produced a dozen different green maps of local environmental subjects, and two girls from our Washington Heights school won a youth entrepreneurship award from the Bank of America for their innovative "Cycle Craft" jewelry project.
Every donation allows us to include more youth in our programs. You can have a huge impact on our ability to support a variety of youth bike programs in 2007. Your donation will support our ride clubs and earn-a-bike programs. It will cost us $3,000 to offer stipends to promising students in an intensive apprenticeship program. Every student who works for a bicycle in one of our earn-a-bike programs gets a helmet to go with that bike, funded by Recycle-A-Bicycle's donors. $1500 will underwrite the cost of 80 helmets for youth who are riding home a bike that they built in our school programs. Finally, your $25 donation will provide wholesome snacks on one ride club ride.
Please give as generously as you are able and help us to offer youth across New York City these exciting opportunities! Your contribution is tax deductible. You may make your donation on-line, or, you may send a check payable to:
